Sixteen Teams Remain in the Hunt for $100,000

Minneapolis, Minn. (April 6, 2019) – After two days of competitive pool play, 16 teams have punched their ticket to Sunday’s knockout round of the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship, where they’ll compete for the event’s $100,000 grand prize.

 

Each of the eight pool winners posted perfect 3-0 records after the first two days of play. The ACC (Pool A), West Coast (B), American Athletic (C), SEC (D), MAAC (E), Big Ten (F), Colonial (G) and the Pac-12 (H) earned the top spot in their pools.

 

The runners-up in each pool also secured bids to the Round of 16, including the Patriot League out of Pool A, the Southland out of Pool B, the Northeast Conference out of Pool C, the Big South out of Pool D, the Mid-American out of Pool E, the Big Sky out of Pool F, Conference USA out of Pool G and the Southern Conference out of Pool H.

Notable Round of 16 matchups include the ACC and Southland squaring off in the opening game of the day at 9:30 a.m. CT, hometown favorite Jordan Murphy and the Big Ten taking on the MAC at 11:10 a.m. and the Colonial against the SoCon at 11:30 a.m. in a matchup of Conference Players of the Year Justin Wright-Foreman and Fletcher Magee.

 

Given the extensive fan interest over the last two days, Sunday’s games are expected to draw a wide audience. The 2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship has generated over six million live views on Twitter, in addition to the thousands of fans that have watched many of the Tournament’s 48 pool play games in person over the last two days.

 

The Round of 16 begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. CT followed immediately by quarterfinals action. Both rounds will be streamed live exclusively on Twitter at @3X3UHoops.

 

The semifinals, third-place game and Championship Game of the 2019 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will be televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m., when one team will win the ultimate prize of $100,000, and earn the right to represent the Tournament at the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 Open National Championship in Las Vegas next month.
